POSTURAL ASSESSMENT
What is Postural Assessment?

Postural assessment is a visual assessment of the position of the spine.
It's basically a comparison between your posture and the neutral position, which we associate with the standard S-shape curvature of the spine.

We will couple this with Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Investigation and we can begin to determine which muscles are problematic.  This may arise from scar tissue, injury, incorrect force couples around a joint, and incorrect posture.

These investigations lead us to certain conclusions about all of the above and the therapist is able to set a programme of exercise (involving stretching and strengthening) to suit your body.  All the time we're attempting to bring you closer to the perfect postural position.

Why do I need to know?

Your posture plays a vital role in the functional quality of your musculoskeletal system.

So if you're an active person who's maybe suffering from niggles and pains during exercise, or even at rest; a postural assessment is right for you.

We'll aim to retrain core muscles and remove faulty loading patterns.  So hopefully when you move and rest, your body is able to do so without excessive stress and strain.

From a functional point of view you should be able to move fluently on two feet: sitting, standing, bending, twisting and turning.  All this should be done freely and comfortably, with the right muscles switching on in correct sequence and with the correct force.
